For prospective new folks to my practice:

Hello and Welcome to my practice website.

I have a solo private practice in relationship consultation/psychiatry/and stress management.

My office is privately located north of Iowa Methodist Hospital on Center Street in Des Moines at:

1221 Center Street, Suite 3
Des Moines, Iowa  50309-1014

The office is immediately east of the Eyerly-Ball Mental Health Center and about three blocks west from the Greyhound bus station and Channel 8.  My location makes for privacy as does the fact that I only see one person, couple, or family per hour so the chance that you will see someone you know in my office is much reduced.  Many folks find the Keo exit off of Highway 235 an easy entry point.  You can take Keo to 12th Street and then turn right on Center Street before you would drive up the road to Methodist Hospital.  On Center Street you will proceed heading west.  My office is the first building on your right, but take the 2nd driveway as my office is on the west side of the 1221/1223 building.  You can drive right up to Suite 3 and park out front.

My office number is 515.288.8000.  If you call between 8 a.m. and 1 p..m. Monday through Thursday, you will reach  my office assistant, Jan .  If she is not available, you can leave a message on our voice mail system and one of us will get back to you in a timely manner.  Messages can also be left on the voice mail over the weekend and will be returned the next working day.

You'll notice my black lab mix, Lucy, who is my companion during my office hours.  She is very friendly and loves to be petted.

I am accepting new patients.

Board Certified in Psychiatry, I offer consultation/psychotherapy with all age groups, medication where appropriate, and training in biofeedback, relaxation, and meditation for the self-regulation of physical and emotional symptoms.  My practice is based on the work and thinking of Murray Bowen, M.D. and his development of Bowen Family Systems Theory.  A link is provided on this website under 'Links' to the Bowen Center for the Family in Washington, D.C. that will give you some basic background regarding this approach.

I offer the luxury of 45 minute sessions.  I am in no hurry.  I see folks for consultation/counseling on a variety of life issues - from dealing with a struggling marriage, divorce, grief, raising children, problems at work, health problems, general relationship issues, etc.  Many folks I see struggle with symptoms of anxiety, depression, sleep loss, conflictual relationships, a lack of meaning in life, as well as many other stumbling blocks to better functioning.

Please read the Welcome Packet under the 'Office Forms' category on this website.  It will tell you much about my practice and my training.  My c.v. (resume) is also under 'office forms' and can be viewed on this site.

I look forward to meeting you.
